Layang Scad

Frozen Layang scad (Decapterus macrosoma) is one of the Scad family , mainly living in the southern sea. It is also named Long-bodied scad, shortfin scad, slender scad, because Layang scad is very slender compared to similar species. It is somewhat rounded in cross section and the posterior end of upper jaw is concave with a rounded protrusion ventrally. Its edge of shoulder girdle has two small papillae and the lower one is larger, and each dorsal and anal fin followed by a separate finlet. It has a metallic blue dorsal, a silvery belly, hyaline fins and a opercle with a small black spot.

According to Dr. Hong Jiande, Layang Scad is made into Kusaya クサヤ dried fish on the Izu Peninsula in Japan. It is a high-value product and is known as "the most delicious in the world." Also, it is widely used for frying, mincing to make balls and fish cakes.
