See how Chinese aquatic products go overseas from the sea!

15-2

China as the world's first fishery country, in 2023, the total output of aquatic products 71 million tons, an increase of 3.4%. But at the same time, it is facing the situation of increasing imports of aquatic products and decreasing exports.

Why fish exports are sluggish? What are the fisheries policies of the provinces? How to solve the difficult situation of aquatic products export?

Aquatic products export, what is the difficulty?

The import volume increased and the export volume decreased, which is the basic situation of the import and export of aquatic products in China in the previous two years.

According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs, the cumulative import volume of aquatic products in China in 2022 was 4.54 million tons, an increase of 20%, and the cumulative import value was 132.77 billion yuan, an increase of 40.6%. The cumulative export volume of aquatic products was 3.7 million tons, down 1.3% year-on-year, and the cumulative export volume was 150.54 billion yuan, up 7.9% year-on-year.

The export situation of China's aquatic products is also closely related to the diet of the Chinese people and the structure of freshwater fish farming.

China is the world's largest freshwater aquaculture country, we usually like to eat large freshwater fish - black carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, carp, crucian, etc., due to different dietary habits at home and abroad, these fish are basically in the domestic market circulation, rarely can contact the international market.

The key to promote the export of aquatic products is to clarify the demand characteristics of exporting countries, strengthen international exchanges, and increase the output of orders more directly.

China's aquatic province "qualifying", Fujian has been the champion for more than ten consecutive years. In 2023, Fujian's exports of aquatic products reached 7.31 billion US dollars, accounting for 36.8% of the country's total exports of aquatic products that year. Among them, the export value of Fujian aquatic products to RCEP countries and regions reached 4.59 billion US dollars, and the export value to ASEAN reached 3.77 billion US dollars.

It is worth noting that among China's major fishing provinces, Shandong's mariculture output value of 114 billion yuan ranks first, and Zhejiang's Marine fishing output value of 66 billion yuan ranks first, but when the two are added together, Fujian Province is the first. Fujian and Shandong are the champion and runner-up of aquatic products "qualifying" over the years, but in recent years, Fujian's export output value continues to surpass the second Shandong.

Its core method is to continuously optimize the variety structure. Fujian ranks first in the total output of high value-added mariculture species such as large yellow croaker, kelp, gracilaria, oyster and abalone. In sea cucumber, grouper, green crab, seaweed, cockle, razor clam, mussel and other high value-added aquaculture products are also far ahead.

Among the Marine fishing species in Fujian, the fishing output of snapper, blue caranx, horsetail, mullet and squid in 2022 is the first in the country, and the Marine fishing output of moray eel, mackerel, hairtail, pomfret, squid, octopus and jackcrab is also quite amazing. The deep-processed products of these high-end aquatic products are especially favored by exporting countries and continue to flow to the international market.

Secondly, relying on the two major aquaculture bases in Zhejiang and Guangdong, Fujian can purchase a large number of high-quality raw materials, and can also receive a large number of Taiwan fishing boats, which can be described as having the freshest and abundant aquatic "granary".
