From July 17th to 18th, 2025, the "2025 International Conference on Fisheries Science and Technology Innovation "was successfully held in Fuzhou, jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and the Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries. This conference, themed "Facilities and Smart Fisheries: Towards New Quality Productivity", attracted experts, scholars, researchers and business representatives from 16 countries and international organizations to gather in Fuzhou to jointly explore the future path for the sustainable development of global fisheries.
The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Wang Yumei, the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. Prominent guests such as Yan Zhihuang, director of the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries, Cui Guohui, president of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and Manuel Berry, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, attended and delivered speeches. During the conference, 16 top international scholars, including Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians Mai Kangsen and Chen Songlin, as well as Professor Patrick Solgrus from Ghent University in Belgium, delivered keynote speeches covering cutting-edge fields such as disease prevention and control in aquaculture, industrialized deep-sea and far-sea aquaculture, and the application of smart fishery.
This conference has set up three sub-forums: "Integration of Key Technologies and Equipment for Facility Fisheries", "Application Scenarios and Implementation Paths of Smart Fisheries", and "Industry Demands and Technology Matching". In the field of smart fishery, innovative applications such as blockchain traceability technology and AI water quality monitoring systems have become the focus of discussion. The conference also released the "Initiative on Promoting International Exchanges and Cooperation in Marine Fisheries", calling on the global fishery community to enhance scientific and technological cooperation and jointly address the challenges of sustainable resource utilization. The Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries stated that it will take this conference as an opportunity to further promote the construction of "Maritime Fuzhou", accelerate the transformation of fishery science and technology achievements, and inject new impetus into the construction of the National Marine economic development Demonstration zone.
