The price of raw squid in Argentina has skyrocketed

The price of raw squid in Argentina has skyrocketed recently. In just ten days, the price rose by more than $800 per ton, and by more than $300 in two days. Why is the price increase so high?

82-1

Currently, there is a huge demand for squid products in the EU market. We export squid from Argentina, Peru to UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and other countries. With the increase of demand, the price of raw materials began to rise. However, the status of Argentine squid has some negative implications for importers.

Raw materials from Argentina stopped being shipped to China

Chinese factories import raw materials from Argentina and process them into products such as squid tubes and rings. However, containers of raw materials from Argentina that tested positive for nucleic acid were recently rejected, leading Argentine exporters to fear that their containers might be positive. As a result, some exporters have stopped sending raw materials to China.

Taiwanese fishing vessels have been banned from landing in mainland ports

Recently, all Taiwanese fishing boats have been barred from landing directly in mainland ports without hygiene certificates. These boats mainly carry raw materials of 200-300g products. Because of the ban, we need more time to get these raw materials because these Taiwanese ships need to return to Taiwan and transport the raw materials to the port in containers.

Argentina's stock of squid in March and April will soon be exhausted

Now the factory's raw materials come from fishing boats that return in March and April. This amount of raw materials may be used up by the end of August.

All sorts of reasons, make Argentina squid raw material price rise so fast. Moreover, the trend of increase continues. Many factories stop quoting because they want to see how the actual situation of raw materials is, whether it is artificial speculation, and then make quotations after the price of raw materials is stable.

As a matter of fact, the quantity of raw materials at home is small, and enquiries are getting larger and larger. Depending on market supply and demand, Argentine squid prices may now rise again. Importers are advised to order and lock up the goods as soon as possible. In addition, sea freight will continue to rise, order earlier also means less cost.
