Decapterus isgenus of marine fishes of jack family, Carangidae, commonly known as mackerel scads, round scads, or horse mackerel. They are found throughout the world.

Characteristic features:
  1. Scutes on caudal peduncle
  2. Body elongate and slender
  3. Separate finlet at end of soft dorsal and anal fins
  4. 14–29 scales in straight part of lateral line
  5. End of upper jaw concave above
Colour:

Metallic blue above, silvery below; a small black blotch on upper edge of operculum; caudal fin dusky; other fins pale.

Size:

Up to 35 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West and Central Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Pelagic, from 30 to 170 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on small invertebrates. Forms small schools.
