The Peruvian Ministry of Production announced that based on the scientific research results of "Giant Squid Operation III", the giant squid (Dosidicus gigas) fishing quota for the second half of 2025 will be officially set at 82,026 tons, and will be managed in stages.

Phased quota allocation
According to the new regulations, fishing activities will be divided into two phases:
- Phase I: August 25 to October 31, with a quota of 39,594 tons, accounting for 48% of the total;
- Phase II: November 1 to December 31, with a quota of 42,432 tons, accounting for 52% of the total.
The total annual catch (including 421,993.93 tons in the first half of the year) is expected to reach approximately 504,000 tons.
Fishing Schedule and Vessel Types
Regarding the fishing schedule, the government has set specific start dates for vessels of different cargo capacities:
- August 25th: Vessels with a cargo capacity of 20 cubic meters or less may operate;
- September 1st: Vessels with a cargo capacity of 20–32.6 cubic meters that participated in and successfully completed Giant Squid Operation III may begin fishing;
- September 9th: All vessels with a cargo capacity of 20–32.6 cubic meters will participate;
- November 1st: Vessels with a cargo capacity of 20 cubic meters or less will enter the second phase;
- November 16th: Vessels with a cargo capacity of 20–32.6 cubic meters will begin operations.
Fishing and Processing Requirements
In addition to quotas and operating hours, the Peruvian government has imposed strict requirements on fishing, transportation, and processing:
- Artisanal fishing vessels must possess port exit permits;
- A digital unloading register must be completed, including information on the fishing area, quantity, destination, and transport vehicle; and standardized registration procedures have been established for isothermal vehicles used to transport aquatic resources.
- Within 48 hours of receiving squid, processing plants must fulfill two obligations:
1. Report receipt to the DGSFS-PA;
2. Ensure that the "unloading form" matches the unloading registration information approved by the DGSFS-PA.
This series of management measures aims to ensure the rational allocation and effective supervision of giant squid resources, avoid overfishing, and take into account the production needs of fishing communities.
