The arca subca is found in Korea, Japan and Vietnam. It can also be seen in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea and East China Sea. It lives near the low water line of the intertidal zone to the shallow water area of the subtidal zone, especially near the estuary where fresh water flows out, and is mostly 4-8 meters long. It uses gill filaments to filter algae and organic debris from seawater for food. The gonads are enclosed around the digestive gland (visceral mass). At sexual maturity the gonads are (purple) red in females and yellow-white in males. The eggs are fertilized and hatch in seawater. The arca arca numbers living in Liaodong Bay of the Bohai Sea spawn from early July to early August. The amount of ovulation of an individual can reach 2 million to 3 million, and the spawning water temperature is mostly between 25 and 27℃.
