Tiger prawns are the "Hermes" of the seafood world. Not only are they delicious, but they're also rich in various health-beneficial nutrients. Today, I'll introduce the nutritional value, market situation, and several amazing cooking methods for tiger prawns in detail.
Nutritional Value of Tiger Prawns
The nutritional value of tiger prawns truly amazes me! They contain 30% more astaxanthin than other shrimp. Astaxanthin is known as the king of antioxidants, possessing extremely high anti-aging effects; after eating them, I felt several years younger!

The protein content of tiger prawns is several times, even dozens of times, higher than that of fish, milk, and eggs, making it a boon for fitness enthusiasts! Moreover, they are rich in calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, and other nutrients, which are beneficial for bones, the immune system, and overall health. They are truly packed with nutrition, leaving you feeling energized after eating them!
The Current Market Situation of Tiger Prawns
The current market situation for tiger prawns is quite an interesting topic. Wild tiger prawns are very expensive, selling for 400-500 yuan per jin (approximately 0.5 kg), mainly supplied to high-end hotels and markets. Most of the prawns on the market are freshly killed, priced at around 120 yuan per jin.

Tiger prawns are also divided into different types, such as those frozen on ships, wild-caught, semi-aquacultured at sea, and land-farmed, with significant price differences. The supply of these prawns really depends on luck; you can't buy them every day just because you have money. For example, I was incredibly lucky last time I bought some at the market; I collected over 5,000 jin of these top-quality prawns, and I was so excited!
Cooking Methods for Tiger Prawns
There are many ways to cook tiger prawns, each one more tempting than the last. Recommended methods include pan-frying with the back open, pan-frying with garlic, pan-frying with cheese, and hot pot with peeled prawns. Especially delicious is blanched tiger prawns, which best showcase their sweet and fresh flavor, simple yet preserving the original taste of the prawns.

Making blanched tiger prawns is also very simple: Prepare ginger, scallions, Shaoxing wine, and other seasonings. Wash the tiger prawns and blanch them in boiling ginger and scallion water for 3-4 minutes. Then remove them and soak them in ice water for 15 minutes. Drain and plate them. This treatment results in prawns with a springy texture and excellent taste!
Another method is pan-frying tiger prawns with the back open. First, cut off the rostrum and legs, devein the prawns, pat them dry with kitchen paper, and then pan-fry them in hot oil until cooked. Next, sauté minced ginger, garlic, and chili peppers until fragrant. Add light soy sauce, cooking wine, sugar, and sweet fermented rice, and stir-fry evenly. Finally, add the pan-fried shrimp and simmer over low heat for 8 minutes until the sauce thickens. This dish is truly irresistible!
Tiger prawns are not only delicious but also highly nutritious, making them a truly exceptional seafood delicacy. Hopefully, after trying these cooking methods, you too will fall in love with the deliciousness of tiger prawns.
