Aquatic product area hits new low again

From the perspective of the way of obtaining aquatic products, according to the Provisions of the Fisheries Law, China implements the policy of "focusing on aquaculture, with simultaneous cultivation, fishing and processing, adapting measures to local conditions and focusing on each" for fishery production. Under the guidance of this policy, China's aquatic products have been mainly artificially bred for many years.

Aquaculture has made an important contribution to solving the difficulty of urban and rural residents in China to eat fish, increasing the supply of high-quality animal protein, improving the nutrition and health level of the whole people and ensuring food safety in China. Since 2015, with the continuous improvement of China's aquaculture technology and efficiency, aquaculture area showed a steady decline, by 2020, the national aquaculture area declined to 7036.11 thousand hectares.

With the deepening of national aquaculture protection work and the continuous tightening of environmental protection policies in the future, China's aquaculture area will be basically stable in the future.

From the perspective of the composition of aquaculture area, the area of freshwater aquaculture in China is far more than that of mariculture. By 2020, the area of freshwater aquaculture in China will be 5040.56 thousand hectares, accounting for 71.6% of the total area, while the area of mariculture will be 1,955.55 thousand hectares, accounting for 28.4% of the total area. 

Aquaculture output grew steadily

Specific to the aquatic product supply, at present, China's freshwater aquaculture to crab and fish, Marine aquaculture is fish, shrimp, shellfish, algae and other Marine organisms. With the growth of China's consumption demand for aquatic products, the total output of aquaculture in China continues to improve. By 2020, the total output of aquacultural products in China will be 52.242 million tons, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year. 

In general, the output of freshwater aquaculture is ahead of that of mariculture in China. Since 2015, the total market share of mariculture in China has remained at about 40%, while the total output of freshwater aquaculture has basically maintained at about 60%. In 2020, the output of freshwater aquaculture in China was 3,088,900 tons, accounting for 59.1 percent of the total. Mariculture output was 21.3531 million tons, accounting for 40.9 percent of the total output.

The total output value of aquaculture continues to rise

With the continuous improvement of aquaculture production scale, the total output value of China's aquaculture industry also shows a continuous improvement of the development trend, in 2020, the total output value of national aquaculture breakthrough one trillion yuan, reached 1022.34 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 4.7%; The total output value of mariculture is 383.62 billion yuan; The output value of freshwater aquaculture was 638.72 billion yuan.
