The First China-Indonesia Joint Technical Committee Meeting On Fisheries Cooperation Was Successfully Held

On February 18, the first China-Indonesia Joint Technical Committee Meeting on Fisheries Cooperation was held via video link. A Chinese delegation composed of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia held talks with the Indonesian side.

 

China and Indonesia fully recognized the importance of fishery cooperation to the economic development, food security and maritime cooperation of both sides, and conducted in-depth consultations on 16 topics in the fields of fishery fishing, aquaculture, fishery resource conservation, and combating illegal fishing, and reached multiple consensuses. In terms of fishing cooperation, the two sides introduced the implementation of the China-Indonesia Fishing Technical Cooperation Guidelines, clarified the implementation details, and agreed to speed up the implementation of fishing cooperation to achieve results; In terms of aquaculture, the two sides shared development status, policies and implementation effects, and agreed to strengthen technical exchanges in deep-sea aquaculture, disease prevention and control, seaweed aquaculture, and aquaculture digitalization. In addition, the two sides will deepen practical cooperation in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU), fishery resource conservation, and coordinated development of the entire fishery industry chain to promote high-quality fishery development and enhance the well-being of fishermen.

 

In September 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Fisheries signed the "Fishery Cooperation Implementation Arrangement". In November 2024, under the witness of President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Prabowo, the two sides signed the "Technical Cooperation Guidelines on Promoting Sustainable Capture Fisheries." According to the requirements of the above-mentioned documents, the two sides established a Joint Technical Committee for Fishery Cooperation to hold meetings on a rotating basis to supervise and review the implementation of fishery cooperation between the two countries and provide suggestions and consultations.
